Addie Arva Williams
MANSFIELD: Addie Arva Givens Williams, 84, of 666 Ollivesburg Rd. passed away quietly at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Sunday, October 13, 2013 after an extended illness.
Mrs. Williams was born on Monday, April 8, 1929 to the late Charles Preston and Addie V. Walker Givens in Willard, and had lived in Mansfield the past 66 years. Addie "B", as she was affectionately called was a graduate of Willard High School. She was a longtime, faithful member of the Oasis of Love Church, where she served on the Jr. Mother's Board, Choir President, Nurses Guild and Vice President of the Young Women's Christian Council for over 25 years. Addie "B" was a renowned cook who enjoyed sharing the fruits of her labor with family and friends and she was famous for her lemon drizzled pound cakes that melted in your mouth. She was formerly employed with Mansfield General Hospital and retired from Mansfield Memorial Homes where she was employed as a Nurses Aide.
Her 5 children survive Addie "B": Mary and husband Jay Douglas with whom she made her home, Fred Williams Jr., Michael (Kathy) Muhammad, and Debra (Tim) Holt, Mansfield, and David Williams, Cleveland; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters-in-law Clara and Catherine Givens, Mansfield.
In addition to her parents Addie was also preceded in death by her husband Fred, Sr., 1 sister, Mary Thornton, and 5 brothers, James and Milton Givens, and Charles Miller, and 2 infant brothers.
Homegoing celebration will be held Friday at 12:00 noon in the Oasis of Love Church with her pastor Dr. Walter E. Jordan II officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the homegoing service. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
