Barbara Ellen Pence
MANSFIELD: Barbara Ellen Pence, 89, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday afternoon, October 31, 2013 at Mifflin Care Center. She was born May 29, 1924 in Lundale, West Virginia to the late James and Maggie (Armstrong) Hurst. On January 11, 1947, she married Ottis Pence and they began their family.
Barbara was formerly employed at Gray Drug Store but her most important job was wife and mother. She was an excellent homemaker and loved cooking. She cherished her family, especially her grandsons. In her spare time, she could be found reading, tending to her flower and vegetable gardens and socializing with her many friends. Traveling was a favorite pastime.
Barbara was a member of McElroy Rd. Church of Christ and V.F.W

She is survived by a son, Richard "Rick" Pence of Sullivan; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Pence of Mt. Vernon; four grandsons, all of Mansfield, Curt, Shawn, Jeremiah and Travis Pence; three great-granddaughters, Amber, Julia and Kylea Pence; one great-grandson, Cam Pence; one great-great grandson, Braylen; two sisters, Bessie Liles of Brookville and Virgie Stansell of Bell, FL; four nieces and nephews, Robert Liles of Farmersville, OH, Ellen Krejci of NC, Glenna Endal of MD and Tom Mackey of FL; a special sister-in-law, Pearl Pence of Mansfield; several nieces and nephews by marriage; and longtime friend, Elsie Heiser of Mansfield. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Ottis Pence who passed away in September 1999; and two sons, Kenneth and Ronald Pence.
Friends and family may visit from 2-5 p.m. Sunday, November 10, 2013 in the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road. The funeral service conducted by William Secrist will be held in the funeral home Monday at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
