Blanche Elizabeth Horner
SHELBY: Blanche Elizabeth "Libby" Horner, age 99, died Wednesday January 16, 2013 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Born February 9, 1913 in Akron to George and Bertha (Eyster) Funk she had been a Shelby resident the majority of her life living in Bonita Springs, FL during the winter from 1979 - 2000.
A 1931 graduate of Akron West High School she attended Actual Business College in Akron and had been employed with the Shelby Mutual Insurance Co. Libby was a member of the First Lutheran Church, Shelby Country Club, Alpha Pi Sigma Sorority, the Women's Club of Mansfield and the Jr. Mother's Club. She enjoyed playing piano, golf and bridge with her friends.
She moved to Wesley Glen Retirement Center in Columbus, Ohio on July 1, 2009, where she took part in the church choir, book club, bridge games, and physical fitness classes. She faithfully watched Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune on TV and especially enjoyed reruns of the Lawrence Welk show. She was always cheerful, seldom complained of anything, and made friends easily.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Dick Berry of Columbus; grandson Richard (Ellen) Berry and great grandson Nicholas of Dunkirk, Maryland, grandson Craig (Terri Fyfe) Berry of Columbus; niece Cindy (Chuck) Campbell; great niece, Jennifer (Aaron) Walton and great great nieces Natalie, Emilie, and Megan, all of Spring Hill, Tennessee, and great nephew Ed Campbell of Columbus.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Jack E. Horner in 1996, son Jeffrey Horner, brother, Richard Funk and her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Douglas and Thyra Horner.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 26, 2012 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. John Wanamaker will officiate with interment held in Oakland Cemetery.
