Carrie O'Dell Scruggs

MANSFIELD: Carrie O'Dell Scruggs, 72, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, November 18, 2012. She is now in the loving arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Carrie was born January 28, 1940 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Sam Scott, Sr. and Minnie (Moore) Scott, and moved to Mansfield at the age of 10. She worked at Independence Tower, YMCA as a cook, and Flxible Bus Co., and was a homemaker. She loved her family and the Lord, she loved gardening, flowers, cooking, baking, playing bingo, watching her favorite game shows; The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, animal shows, The Turtle Man, the news, Gospel shows, and reading her Bible. She loved monkeys, and her favorite colors were red, orange and purple. Covered by Christ's saving grace and watchful eyes she attended Crossroad Church and Brookwood Way Church of Christ. Carrie was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church where she was born again and gave her life to the Lord and was baptized on December 11, 2011 by her pastor.

Surviving to cherish her memory are two daughters, Phyllis Bragg (her caretaker), and Jackie (Curtis) Caldwell; four sons, Randy Bragg, Charles, Jr. (Melissa), Ricky and DeMarcus Scruggs, all of Mansfield; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Edwards and Jessie Mae Scott; one uncle, Eddie B. Moore; eight sisters-in-law; one brother-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including Charles Scruggs, Sr., Joy Middleton, Connie Baldridge, Maxine, Nona Burke, Bessie Graham, Terre Merle (passport aide), Pastor Russ Hawthrone, and members of Brookwood Way Church of Christ.

In addition to her parents, Carrie was also preceded in death by her sister, Mable O'Neal; brothers, Robert, AB, Wayman, Sam, Jr., and Harold Scott; a nephew, Lamario Scott; and a special friend, Dorothy Hobbs.

Visitation will be on Monday, November 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. and home going services will follow at 12:00 p.m. at Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 343 N. Main St., Mansfield, with Pastor Clifton Chandler officiating. Interment will be at Mansfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends at her daughter's residence, 1060 Yorkwood Road, daily 5 - 9 p.m., Friday until the day of the service. Werner-Gompf Funeral Services is handling the arrangements.
