Charles William Swank
MANSFIELD: Charles William Swank, 92, of Mansfield, passed away early Sunday morning, December 22, 2013 at his home. Born May 8, 1921 in Bellville, he was the son of the late Vesta Irene (Walker) and Orlin Gabriel Swank.
He graduated with the Class of 1940 from Mansfield Senior High. Charles married Imogene Conner on July 6, 1943 and had three beautiful children with her. She preceded him in death on May 12, 1998. On December 15, 2001, Charles married Evelyn Boggs.
Charles retired after 43 years as the Plant Engineer and tool and die foreman with National Seating Co. He was also a partner with his son, when they owned O.G.S. Tool and Manufacturing. Charles was a member of A.A.R.P., Richland Camera Club where he was Past-President and B.P.O.E. Lodge #56. In his free time, he enjoyed photography and collecting old cameras. In the past, he was active in the Madison Music Club, Madison Booster Club and the Mifflin Township Zoning Board where he served as secretary for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn M. Boggs Swank; two daughters, Catherine Swank-Green of Mansfield and Pamela (David) Waleri of Texas; son, Stephen (Kimberly) Swank of Mansfield; two step-sons, Michael (Nancy) Phipps and David (Connie) Phipps; five grandchildren, Christopher and Mark Waleri, Tiffany, Alecia and Charles W. Swank; two step-grandchildren, Justin and Austin Phipps; nine great-grandchildren, Jordan, Heather, Mia and Jake Waleri, Maleia, Tyler and Brooklyn Wyatt and Alexandria and Arianna Collier; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death two brothers, Raymond and Dwight Swank; and a son-in-law, Don Green.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2013 in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Bonnie Peltomaa officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Bellville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bellville Historical Society or to the family.
