Clair E. Oehlhof

SHELBY: Clair E. Oehlhof, age 85, resident of Shelby died Sunday, February 16, 2013 in Crestwood Care Center.

Born December 11, 1927 in Spencerville, Ohio to William and Nondis (Shively) Oehlhof, he was a graduate of Spencerville High School moving to Shelby in 1968.

A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he farmed in Spencerville and was manager of the grain elevator in Spencerville. Upon moving to Shelby, he was manager of the Shelby Equity Exchange for approximately 20 years.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, past member of the Shelby Rotary Club, past member of The Good Sam Club and United Fund of Shelby. He enjoyed his family and grandkids, camping and traveling. After his retirement, fishing all over the United States was his passion and he and his wife, Carol, did extensive traveling and sight seeing. Clair started the Shelby Buyers Club for purchasing livestock at the Richland Co Fair for Shelby students.

Survivors include two sons; Mike (Nancy) Oehlhof of Shelby and Terry Oehlhof of Cozumel, Mexico; five grandchildren, Michelle Shuster, Nicole Lynch, Steve Oehlhof, Shayne Sankoe and Heather Davis; 11 great grandchildren; two step-grandsons; three brothers; Dick (Joyce) Oehlhof of Wisconsin, Ben (Betty) Oehlhof of Spencerville, John (Rita) Oehlhof of Spencerville; two sisters, Martha Carnes of Elida and Mary Lou Bible of Elida; nieces, nephews and other relatives. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Pfenning Oehlhof, and one son, David Oehlhof.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Burial will be held in Oakland Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Calling hours will not be observed. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions may be made to the Shelby FFA Scholarship Fund in memory of Clair & Carol Oehlhof.
