Dennis L. "Duke" Sammons

SHELBY: Dennis L. "Duke" Sammons, age 66, resident of Shelby died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital.

Born February 5, 1946 in Shenandoah, Ohio to Noah and Hazel (Parsons) Sammons he had been a Shelby area resident the majority of his life. He was a 1964 graduate of Plymouth High School where he played varsity football. Duke was employed at General Motors retiring in 1990 and was a member of the UAW Local#549.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing and mowing with his John Deer tractor. Duke especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be fondly remembered as a true friend to all and a loving,caring husband, father and grandfather. His genuine laughter and humor will be missed by all.

Survivors include his loving wife and best friend, Dianne (Pursley) Sammons, whom he wed March 12, 1965; one son, Brad (Tami) Sammons of Shelby; one daughter, Brandi Sammons Fishpaw of Shelby; four grandchildren, Rachel (Trevor) Miller, Eric Sammons, Michael Sammons, and Katie Fishpaw, his mother, Hazel Sammons of Mansfield; one brother, Noah "Sam" (Carol) Sammons of Venice, Fla. one sister Saundra (Daniel) Keene-Peterson of Ontario, nieces, nephews and his little buddy, "Rascal."

He was preceded in death by his father, Noah "Curly" Sammons in 2009.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, December 8, 2012 from the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Monty Perry of the Belmont Community Church of Mansfield will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.
