Douglas R. Simmons

ASHLAND: Douglas R. Simmons, 56, of Ashland, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at his residence. He was born May 2, 1956 to Harold and Olive Sue (Smith) Simmons in Ashland, Ohio.

Doug graduated from Ashland High School in 1974 where he excelled in baseball earning the "Zimmy" award. He attended The Ohio State University and Bowling Green State University. Doug worked as an electrician. He was employed by Stanley Burns Builders, Chandler Electric, Rowe Electric and most recently IBEW as a union journeyman electrician. An avid sports fan, Doug had a standing seat reservation at the Indy 500 every year, was a lifelong Ohio State and Cleveland Browns fan and loved working outside. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church in Ashland.

He married Betsy Wilson in 1993. They have two children, Margaret and Luke Simmons who were his shining lights. He is also survived by his mother, Olive Sue Simmons and his brother, Steven (Barbara) Simmons both of Ashland, along with nephews, Vincent and Matthew Simmons and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at the Ashland Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 308 Claremont Avenue, Ashland. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Jeff Messner. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church.
