MANSFIELD: Elvia Pfeifer, 85, of Mansfield passed away November 24, 2012 at Winchester Terrace Nursing Home.
Elvia was born February 22, 1927 in Springfield, Massachusetts to James and Della Dowd Slattery. She was a 1944 graduate of St. Peter's High School and then attended the University of Michigan
. Elvia was a volunteer for over 30 years at the American Red Cross and at Mansfield General Hospital in the Personnel Department and the gift shop. She was very active in various church organizations, especially Feed the Needy, at St. Peter's Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years whom she wed September 13, 1947, Richard Pfeifer of Mansfield; children: Rick (Kathie) Pfeifer of Westerville, Audrey (John) Sikula of Ashland, Jack (Cheryl) Pfeifer of Shelby, Carolyn (Garry) Weich of Elyria; grandchildren: Meghan (Aaron) Kneeland, Eric (Jazmin) Pfeifer, Matt Pfeifer, Jennifer (Eric) Crutchfield, Audrey and Julie Weich; great-grandchildren: Bria, Charleigh, Alyssa, Mckenna, Nathan, Griffin; sisters: Betty Spognardi, Claire Dupler, Muriel (Bruce) Anderson; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Marilyn Stevens.
Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, on Tuesday from 4 - 7pm with a vigil service at 4:00pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Wednesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church with Fr. Tom McQuillen officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.
