Elvin Eugene Hood
MANSFIELD: Elvin Eugene Hood, 60, died Friday, June 21, 2013 in Ohio State University Medical Center, Columbus, Ohio after an extended illness.
Mr. Hood was born on Tuesday, May 26, 1953 to Carey and Marjorie Roper Hood Jr. in Mansfield and was a lifelong resident of the community. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School, the Class of 1971 where he was a member of the marching band and orchestra. Elvin furthered his education at North Central Technical College receiving certification as a journeyman electrician in 1973. He remained in the profession for 29 years retiring in 2004. He had a love of music and was also a professional musician performing at many venues. He was a renowned saxophonist and keyboardist and had played with bands like the Sound, Red Ball Jets, and Kicks, to name few, and contributed his musical talents as a backup musician. Elvin was a member of the Mitchell Chapel AME Church and attended Christ Gospel Church. He and his mother were also known for performing duets together mostly in church.
In addition to his parents Elvin is also survived by his brother Michael (Carole) Hood, Toledo; sister Lesley (Paul) Simpson, Hilliard; 3 step daughters Rebecca Floyd, Stephanie Hammond and Alisha Mays, Mansfield; 3 step sons Joey Arrendondo, Brian and George Vassel, Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews and step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 12:00 noon in the Ruth Anna Lee Williams Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Services with Reverend Thomas Darden of Turner Chapel, Crestline, officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mansfield Cemetery.
