Eugene E. Cole

MANSFIELD: Eugene E. Cole, 81, of Mansfield, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital following a short illness.

Eugene was born April 29, 1932 in Jacob, Kentucky and was the son of Willie and Virgie (Dean) Cole. He retired after working as a crane operator at Empire Detroit Steel Mill for 41 years. On February 3, 1950, he married June Marie Phillips. Eugene was a member of Dean Road Freewill Baptist Church, loved to read his Bible, and enjoyed watching TV. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge. His hobbies included coon hunting and collecting and trading knives, watches, and guns. Eugene loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a good father to his family and was a guiding light for all who would see.

Along with his wife, June Cole, Eugene is survived by three children, Brenda (Roger) Mabe, Gary (Karen) Cole, and Carolyn Rowe all of Mansfield; six grandchildren, Christy Cole, Bobbi Cole, Heather Hamm, Leanna Mosier, Tiffany Soto, and Sherry Mabe; ten great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Martha Phillips, Willard (Omega) Cole, and Wade (Nancy) Cole all of Mansfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by one son, Larry Cole; his parents; eight siblings, Arthur Cole, Clayton Cole, Troy Cole, Magdalene Blevins, Annie Conn, and Edna Carroll, an infant brother, and an infant sister.

Calling hours will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Dean Road Freewill Baptist Church, 1169 Mill Street, Mansfield. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Brother Earl Tackett and Brother Glen Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Springmill Cemetery.
