Floyd F. "Chris" Christensen

MANSFIELD: Floyd F. "Chris" Christensen, 89, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, September 3, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born May 19, 1924 in Lakeview, Michigan he was the son of Myron and Bertha (Bissell) Christensen. Chris retired from General Motors with 36 years of service in welder maintenance. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a platoon Sergeant in Central Europe, African Middle Eastern Theatre and was awarded several medals and two bronze battle stars. His favorite pasttimes were camping, fishing and wood carving.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Nadine (Dutt) Christensen; two daughters, Diane (John) Ison of Ontario, OH and Vicki (Paul) Stano of Mansfield, OH; a son, Darwin (Rose) Christensen of Nipagon, Canada; a sister, Janetta Klunder of Michigan; five grandchildren, Jim Ison (Kerrie Williams), John (Theresa) Ison, Carey Sloan, Andrea (Elliott) Johnson, Adam Christensen; a step granddaughter, Jolene Cote; 11 great grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Herbert, Myron, Jr., Harry, Lt and Dean; and three sisters, Wanetta, Betty Butler and Norma Johnson.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2013 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 7, 2013 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Tony Viscioni. Private burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery where full military honors will be conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ontario Free Methodist Church.
