Garnet L. Barre

SHELBY: Garnet L. Barre, age 92, formerly of Park Village died Friday, February 8, 2013 in MedCentral/Shelby Hospital.

Born April 15, 1920 in Rome, Ohio to John and Laura (Borror) Irey, she was a Shelby resident the majority of her life. A 1938 graduate of Shelby High School, she worked at the Shelby Gum Company and retired from Shelby Metal Products where she was a secretary.

Garnet was a member of the First Christian Church where she sang in the choir, was the church organist and head of the Sunday school classes. An avid sports fan, she enjoyed following the Buckeyes, Browns, Indians and NASCAR, but most of all loved attending her family's sporting events.

She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Carol) Barre of Bellville and Rodney (Vicky) Barre of Shelby; one stepson, Robert (Sharon) Barre of Lexington, her stepdaughter-in-law, Judy Barre of Mansfield; 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her sister-in-law, Janet Irey of Mansfield; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn Barre in 1974; her grandson, Jason Elliott; stepson, Lyle Barre; four sisters, Florence Smith, Elsie Blair, Ava Irey and Helen McClaflin; one brother, Glenn Irey and her brother-in-law, Walter Barre.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Rev. Brad McBee will officiate with interment in Edward's Grove Cemetery, Greenwich. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
