Glenn Edward Tschantz, Jr.
MANSFIELD: Glenn Edward Tschantz, Jr., 83, of Mansfield, died Thursday, December 20, 2012. Born April 3, 1929, in Mansfield, he was the son of Anon (Whitmore) and Glenn E. Tschantz, Sr. A 1946 graduate of Madison High School, Glenn was a member of Woodville Grace Brethren Church. He retired from Mansfield Tire after 32 years and also worked for the United Way for 21 years. An accomplished athlete in high school, Glenn also played softball and basketball in the Mansfield City league until he was in his mid-thirties. He was an official for high school football and basketball for 20 years. He served in his community by volunteering on numerous committees including the Mental Health Board and as the recording secretary for the Richland County AFL-CIO council.
Glenn was a very devoted husband and father, spending most of his time caring for his wife until her death in 2002 and son, Tim, who passed away in 2011.
He is survived by his son, Curt (Penny) Tschantz of Hudson; grandchildren, Cody Tschantz, Olivia Tschantz, Tim (Beckie) Tschantz, and Nathan (Tiffany) Tschantz; great granddaughter, Taylor Tschantz; sister, Gretchen (John) Rudrick of Mansfield and Evelyn (Tony) Schag of Shelby; brother, Paul (Diane) Tschantz of Bellville; sister-in-law, Carol Tschantz of Mansfield; half sister, Dorothy Gorsline of California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, M. Maxine (Uhl) Tschantz; sons, Randall Keith Tschantz and Timothy Edward Tschantz; brother, Bruce Tschantz; and half brother, Vernon Jobe.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 26, 2012 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services conducted by Pastor Gene Witzky will be held Thursday, December 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
