Gretchen J. Whitney
SHELBY: Gretchen J. Whitney, age 90, resident of Shelby died Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in MedCentral/Shelby Hospital following a brief illness.
Born June 19, 1923 in Shelby to Henry, Sr. and Edith (Woodard) Weber she had been a lifelong Shelby resident. A 1941 graduate of Shelby High School, she was employed with the Wilkins Air Force Depot during WWII and later at Roy's Interior Design.
Mrs Whitney was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed playing golf in her earlier years and loved to cook. Her greatest joy was her family.
Survivors include her daughters, Rebecca Whitney of Canton and Bonni (Greg) Yarman of Albion, California; four grandchildren, Alex Yarman, Jill Naveau, Heather Richards and Stacy Beck; six great-grandchildren, Cole, Bryn and Blair Mathewson, Ashley, Emily and Austin Beck; her sister, Betty Love of Shelby; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Whitney in 2002, brother, Henry "Bud" Weber in 1975 and brother-in-law, Gene Love in 2013.
Graveside services will be held 2:00PM Saturday, March 1, 2014 in Oakland Cemetery, Shelby, with Reverend Brad McBee officiating.
