Harmon A. "Sonny" Mansperger
GALION: Harmon A. "Sonny" Mansperger, 78, of Galion, died unexpectedly Friday, September 6, 2013 at Marion General Hospital.
Born October 11, 1934 in Columbus, he was the son of the late Harmon A. Mansperger Sr. and Mary Dale (McMahon) Mansperger. He married his high school sweetheart whom he first dated May 13, 1949 and married February 11, 1956, Carole Lou (Powers) Mansperger. She preceded him in death April 23, 2008.
He was a 1952 graduate of Galion High School, attended Kent State University on an athletic scholarship and was a United States Army
veteran serving in Korea. Sonny was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion where he was the Chairman of the Mt. Calvary Cemetery Committee and a life member in both the Knights of Columbus St. Francis Council 1234 in Galion and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Assembly 838 in Crawford County.
He was a life member of the Galion Elks Lodge
119, Galion Moose Lodge 303, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, AMVETS Polk Township Post 1979, Mansfield Liederkranz and the Galion Community Theatre. He was employed as a regional sales manager for the Perfection-Cobey Company in Galion for 25 years and retired as Manufacture Representative and CEO of H & A Sales, Inc.
He is survived by two sons, Michael L. Mansperger of Galion and Thomas L. Mansperger of Ashland; five grandchildren, Nathan, Jason, Grace, Marissa and Mariah; and one brother and sister-in-law, Thomas E. and Barbara Mansperger of Venice, Fla.
In addition to his wife and parents he was preceded by one daughter, Kathy Lynn Mansperger and one son, Timothy Lynn Mansperger.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, September 9, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion where an Elks Lodge of Sorrow will be held at 7 p.m. Monday followed by a vigil service at 7:15 p.m. Monday, with Deacon Greg Kirk officiating. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 10 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion with Father John Miller, celebrant. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Galion. Full military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Army and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
