Harry J. Clever
ASHLAND: Harry J. Clever, age 96, of Ashland, died Sunday August 25, 2013 at Grant Medical Center.
He was born June 8, 1917 in Lexington, Ohio, the son of Harry O. and Mae (Wirick) Clever.
Harry was a 1935 graduate of Lexington High School. Mr. Clever had lived most all of his life in Ashland. He had been employed with Tempton Loader where he was a Foreman, had been the Owner/ Operator of Power Saw and Lawn Mower Service from 1955 - 1971, and later retired from Al Ewing Ford in Florida. He had been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the American Legion Post 88, Ashland County Yeasteryear Machinery Club and a 51 year member of the Eagles Club where he had been president in 1967 and 1968.
Mr. Clever was a veteran of the U.S. Army
where he served in WWII
in the Philippines. He was awarded the Asistic- Pacific Theater Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars
; Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star; Good Conduct Ribbon; and the World War II Victory Metal. On May 20, 1939 Harry married Margaret (Ackerman) Clever who preceded him in death in 2011.
Survivors include his son and daughter in- law, Doug and Jeri Clever of Ashland; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Gretsinger of Huron; along with his brother, Ray Clever of North Carolina.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; brothers, Erving and Norm; and sister, Marie.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Friday August 30, 2013 at Ashland County Memorial Park with Pastor Robert Pfluger officiating. Military Honors presented by the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard.
