Jack R. Berry
MANSFIELD: Jack R. Berry, age 65, resident of Mansfield and former Shelby resident went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 in MedCentral/Mansfield Hospital following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born May 21, 1947 in Mansfield to Ralph Berry and Bernice (Pryor) Jewell he had been a Shelby area resident for many years moving to Mansfield in 2007. A 1965 graduate of Mansfield Sr. High School, he received his certification in meat processing from Pioneer Career & Technology Center in 1994. Jack retired from Schwebel Baking Co. in May 2012 after 17 years of service. He also had been employed with Jones Potato Chip Co., American Greetings and UPS. A veteran of the US Army
he served during the Vietnam Era.
Jack was an active member of the Lighthouse Chapel in Lucas where he served as an elder and song leader. He loved serving The Lord and performed pastoral duties at church services, nursing homes and hospitals. An avid Ohio State fan, he enjoyed cars and was a former member of the Shelman Model "A" Club. He loved his grandchildren, singing and bringing joy to others.
Survivors include his wife, Connie (Haverfield) Berry, whom he wed December 18, 1970; his children, Kristen (Laura DeWert) Berry of Dublin and Chad (Michelle) Berry of Grand Rapids, Michigan; three grandchildren, Natalie, Brandon and Andrew Berry; his mother, Bernice Jewell of St. Petersburg, Florida, his siblings, Barb (Bruce) Davis of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Pam (Mel) Kempf of Lexington and Paul (Kathy) Jewell of Mason; his mother-in-law, Frances Haverfield of Shelby; his faithful companion, Buddy; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his step-dad, George Jewell in 1980; father-in-law, Donald Haverfield in 2012; and his grandparents, Robert and Lula Pryor.
Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Monday, January 28, 2013 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Dr. Joseph Augello will officiate with interment in Oakland Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00PM and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
