MANSFIELD: Jack E. Flaherty, 81, of Mansfield, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Liberty of Mansfield Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Jack was born in Crestline on November 18, 1932 to the late Maurice E. and Harriet L. (Kraner) Flaherty. He married Patricia A. Johnston on October 8, 1960 and she survives him.

Jack served in the U.S. Army in Germany during the Korean War. He worked in tool and die at General Motors for thirty-eight years retiring in 1995. His was a lifetime member of VFW Post 2920, Crestline. He enjoyed woodworking and bike riding. He was very proud to win a trophy as the oldest rider in the Bratwurst Festival Bicycle Ride.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two sons; Michael E. and Amy Flaherty, Bucyrus, Todd P. Flaherty, Ontario, six grandchildren; Casey Flaherty, Columbus, Mackenzie Flaherty, Bucyrus, Megan Flaherty, Bucyrus, Jacob Flaherty, Bucyrus, Tyler Flaherty, Ontario, and Shelby Flaherty, Ontario, sister-in-law, Jean Flockenzier, Del Ray, FL, niece, Nancy Pride, Columbus, nephews, Rick Flockenzier, Del Ray, FL, Steve Flockenzier, Mansfield, and Mark Flockenzier, Mansfield.

Friends may call Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 10:00 AM until the time of service at noon at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM at Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline, with Deacon Bill Horning officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline. Full military honors will be given by the U. S. Army and the Crestline/Galion Veterans Groups.
