LUCAS: Jan Herr, 59, of Lucas, left this world to begin his next adventure, on October 27, 2012. Born on May 31, 1953 in Mansfield, Ohio, he was the son of Howard and Kathryn Herr. Jan graduated from Madison High School in 1972. Born with an innate sense of how things operate, he was happiest when behind the wheel of a semi-truck, a tractor, a skid loader or on a horse. A perfect day for Jan was to mow something or haul something, then sit back to see what he accomplished.
Married 37 years to Donna (King) Herr, they loved and raised Eric of Columbus and Megan of Lucas. His granddaughter, Erika Smith was especially loved by him. Jan also is survived by his parents-in-law, James and Irene King of Lucas; aunts, uncles cousins, nieces, nephews; his four legged family members consisting of his horses, dogs and cat; and friends he considered a part of his family.
Many children and teens passed through his door to stay the night or a week, they were always welcomed with a smile, a chore to do, and usually a mini lecture about the wrongs of the world, the country, the government or simply the weather. They must not have minded as they always came back!
A casual celebration of Jan's life will be from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2012 at the Life Celebration Reception Center, 129 South Main Street, Mansfield with the Eulogy at 3:00 p.m. conducted by Pastor Dale Warren. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Raemelton Therapeutic Riding Center specifically for the care of the horses, or to Hospice of North Central Ohio. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family of Jan Herr.
