John F. Ramey, Jr.
MANSFIELD: John Ramey wasn't a worrier or anxious. After living with multiple sclerosis for over 30 years, John learned to lean on God's strength, instead of his own. He understood that God never promised an easy life, but instead eternal life through His Son. After fighting the good fight, on December 17, 2013, John F. Ramey Jr. passed into the loving arms of his Savior following an extended illness. He was 69.
The son of John Ramey, Sr. and Opal (Boyd) Ramey, John was born on April 8, 1944 in Wayland, Kentucky. He graduated from Wayland High School in 1963. A year later after moving from Kentucky to Mansfield he met his future bride, Janice Reece. On May 29, 1965 the two were married.
In his younger years, John enjoyed fishing.
Standing for what was right and just, John was described as a peacemaker. Earning the respect of coworkers, he worked for General Motors
as a supervisor and retired in 1991 after 26 years.
John was a member of First Church of God in Mansfield, where he served as trustee.
A man of character and integrity, John never complained about pain or discomfort brought on by multiple sclerosis. Instead, he insisted on focusing on the blessings in his life...his salvation, and his loving wife, children, and grandchildren. Humbly leading by example, John lived a champion's life and is now experiencing a champion's reward.
He is survived by his loving wife Janice Ramey of Mansfield; son Larry Ramey of Ontario, daughter Johna (Robert) Powell of Mansfield; grandchildren Amanda Ramey, Brian Ramey, Andrew Merwine, Joshua Merwine, and Molly Powell; sister Carolyn (Clarence) Turner of Galion, brothers Jim (Marcella) Ramey of Lexington, Dan (Betty) Ramey of Frankfort, KY; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a grandson Isaiah F. Merwine.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2013 from 4-7pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 21, 2013 at 11 am in First Church of God, 1756 Park Avenue West, Mansfield, Ohio 44906. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park.
