MANSFIELD: John L. Scott, 71, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born August 4, 1942 in Mansfield, he was the son of Betty J. (Hart) and Charles H. Scott, Sr., former Mayor of Mansfield. John was a 1961 graduate from Mansfield Senior High School and attended The Ohio State University
, and continued to support both the Tygers and Buckeyes throughout his life. A Civil War buff, he enjoyed camping, playing the drums, country music, and old westerns. John also loved his pugs, Carter and Pugsley, taking care of his aquarium, and decorating for the holidays. He was a school dad to his children and was an avid fan of their sporting events.
He is survived by his wife, Janice (Coleman) Scott; son, Christopher Scott of Mansfield; daughter, Kelly Scott of Mansfield; sisters, Beverly (Bob) Baker of Newark and Ronna Letizia of Columbus; sister-in-law, LeeAnn (Charles) Russell of Mansfield; brother-in-law, Keith (Lisa) Coleman of Mansfield; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, former Mansfield Mayor, Charles Scott, Jr.; sister, Carol Scott; and niece, Kimberly Scott.
Friends may call Sunday, October 20, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Pastor Dave Guild.
