John W. Poffenbaugh

GALION: John W. Poffenbaugh, 87, of Galion, died Friday, May 24, 2013 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion, after failing health.

Born Jan. 16, 1926 in Crestline, he was the son of the late John E. and Selvesta (Brown) Poffenbaugh. He married Castalia "Cassie" (Schiefer) Poffenbaugh on June 27, 1948 and she survives.

He was a graduate of Crestline High School in 1944 and a World War II United States Navy Veteran. John was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Crestline, the Galion Elks Lodge 1191, American Legion Scarbrough Post 243, Midwest Tool Collectors Association, Ohio Tool Collectors Association where he has served as past president. He previously was a coach for little league, was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren participate in sports. He was part owner of Crawford Construction in Galion for 45 years, retiring in 1991. He was a mason and carpenter by trade.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, John K. and Marty Poffenbaugh of Galion and Jeffrey and Mary Poffenbaugh of Galion; four grandchildren, Andrew (Danielle) Poffenbaugh, Adam (Bridget) Poffenbaugh, Paige Poffenbaugh and John Poffenbaugh, II; four great-grandchildren, Aiden, Chace, Olivia and Ellie; two sisters, Virginia Wiltrout of New Washington and Carolyn Studer of Mansfield.

He was preceded in death by five sisters.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at Richardson-Davis Funeral Home in Galion. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 410 N. Thoman Street, Crestline, Ohio 44827 with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Full military graveside honors will be conducted by the United States Navy and the Galion/Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
