Larry Jack Goldsmith

MANSFIELD: Larry Jack "Goldy" Goldsmith, 81, of Mansfield, died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at his home. Born April 8, 1932 in Mansfield, he was the son of Aaron J. and Freida "Honey" (Buchacher) Goldsmith. Larry was a 1950 graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and attended The Ohio State University where he was field manager for the OSU football team under Woody Hayes. He also served in Germany with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Larry was an avid lover of Mansfield and a pillar of the community. He was the owner of Goldsmith's Quality Men's Store, volunteered for Richland County Chapter 51 Korean War Veterans and the Mansfield Memorial Museum, and was instrumental with the development of the Veterans Memorial in downtown Mansfield. An active car lover, he was a member of the Sports Car Club of America and the Porsche Club of America. Larry was also one of the first season ticket holders of the Cincinnati Bengals, missing only two games in 40 years.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura (Brett) Kinsey of Fairview Park, OH and son, David Hayward Goldsmith of Columbus, OH. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diane (Hayward) Goldsmith and sister, Janet.

Friends may call Friday, July 12, 2013 from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Graveside services will follow in Mansfield Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mansfield Memorial Museum, 34 Park Ave West, Mansfield, OH 44902 or 419-524-9924.
