Leah May Tooker

SHELBY: Leah May Tooker, 88, of Shelby, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Mifflin Care Center.

Born July 21, 1925 in Mansfield, she was the daughter of Robert E. and Mayme (Ross) Grove. Leah was employed at Wilkins Air Force Base-Depot and AMF in Shelby, Shelby Sales Book, Tiro World Newspaper, and was a farmwife until 1967. She enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, reading, nature, birds, watching television, and listening to music. Leah was a lifelong member of Auburn Baptist Church, Grange Lecturer, Sunday School teacher, Cub Scout Pack 105 den mother in Tiro, officer in North Central Baptist Women's work, craft person for vacation Bible school and after school programs. She spent many years making bandages and other supplies for world Baptist missionary work. Leah lived her life according to the Golden Rule~always giving of herself for others in need.

She is survived by her children, Dawn Marie Payne of Shelby, Donna May Long of Mansfield and Thomas Tooker of Shelby; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; sisters, Corrine Pine of Salida, CO and Arlene Sullivan of Magnetic Springs, OH; and brother, Robert Grove of Shelby. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Andrew Tooker, who she married on May 23, 1943.
