Lester "Les" James Monroe

GALION: Lester "Les" James Monroe, 75, of Galion, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at The Ohio State University Ross Heart Hospital. Born October 1, 1937 in Hiram, Ohio he was the son of Rolland and Muriel (Black) Monroe. A veteran of the United States Army, he served during peacetime between the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He retired from Packaging Corp of America in Ashland and enjoyed meeting his friends at Millie's Diner in Galion. Les was always lending a hand to anyone who needed it and was very mechanical. He also enjoyed playing games on his computer, his cats and motorcycles and was involved in many motorcycle clubs.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Judy (Jones) Monroe; three daughters, Lila C. McCartney of New York, Deanna Whyel of Mansfield and Lisa Burke of Florida; a step daughter, Regina Kirk of San Meteo, CA; a step son, Roy E. James, Jr. of Marion; grandchildren, Heather, Matthew, Gunnar, Elizabeth, Alex, Elizabeth and Nicole; great granddaughter, Ryleigh; a sister, Kathy (Bruce) White; several nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Rusty of Galion. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step father, Martin Bayer; a brother; and a sister.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Road, Ontario. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 22, 2012 at the funeral home conducted by Pastor Jerry Laudermilk with military honors conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.
