Martin L. Montey
GALION: Martin L. Montey, 72, of Galion, died Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2014 at Kobacher House in Columbus after suffering a stroke at home February 4.
Born January 13, 1942 in Galion, he was the son of Edmond Montey and Vivian Irene (Stevens) Montey. He married Linda M. (Stout) Montey March 18, 1967 and she survives.
Martin graduated from Galion High School in 1960 and served with the United States Army from 1962 to 1964 stationed in France. Upon his discharge from the Army he returned to Galion and began his career in the banking industry where he became a loan financial officer working in Galion, Marysville, and Carey, moving back to Galion in 1976. Martin also worked at the City National Bank in Ashland and Shelby. Following his banking career he worked for Macy's at the Richland Mall.
A member of American Legion Scarbrough Post 243 Martin was involved in the community and was a strong supporter and positive promoter of Galion. He coached Babe Ruth Baseball, was a member of the Galion Booster Club and belonged to First Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon. Martin enjoyed bicycling, was an avid Ohio State University
Buckeye and a National Basketball Association fan. He was an avid reader and enjoyed going to garage sales and flea markets. Martin was concerned about the environment, was passionate about animals and loved his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his wife he is survived by children, Deborah Yost of Edmond, OK and Paul (Gretchen) Montey of Royal Oak, Michigan; grandchildren, Michael Yost, Cassidy Montey, Cole Montey and Carley Montey; brother, Alan (Mary) Montey of Myrtle Beach, SC and sister, Nancy (Robert) Totman of Galion; along with several nieces and nephews
Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church in Galion where memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Julie Fogle, officiating.
