ASHLAND: Mary Alice Hurst, 77, of Ashland, died Thursday, March 7, 2013 at Hospice House in Ashland. Born July 18, 1935 in Shelby, Ohio she was the daughter of Earl and Laura (Bickel) Shea. A homemaker, she was known for her beautiful cakes that she made and decorated for all occasions. She was a 25 years member of the United Methodist Church in Galion where she was a member of the Ruth Circle and had sang in the choir. She was formerly the secretary of the Galion High School Band and was a member of the Galion Community Chorus. She enjoyed nature and seeing new things and loved going on vacation.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert Hurst whom she married April 24, 1954; her children, Lydia (Tom) Bauer of Kentucky, Becky (Don) Rhinehart of Mansfield, Amy Kocher of Galion and Pete (Sheila) Hurst of Perrysville; 9 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a sister, Camilla Perril of Mansfield; a brother, Kenneth Shea of Mt. Gilead; and a brother and sister-in-law, James R. and Adele Hurst of Franklin, IN. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at the Perrysville Baptist Church conducted by Rev. H.E. "Howdie" Burnett. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walk to End Alzheimer's, Amy Kocher's Walk Page.
