Mary Alice Snavely
BELLVILLE: Mary Alice Snavely, 82, of Bellville, passed away Monday evening, March 31, 2014 in Riverside Methodist Hospital following an extended illness.
Born Mary Alice Walker on September 14, 1931 in Bellville to Russell and Beatrice (Cairns) Walker, Mary Alice was graduated from Bellville High School in 1949 and remained a lifelong Bellville resident.
On July 22, 1951 she married Homer Snavely. Mary Alice and Homer enjoyed family vacations and traveling. To Mary Alice, happiness was in having a large, loving, caring, close-knit family. Rarely did she miss her grandchildren's sporting or school events. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidery and reading.
She was a member of Pleasant Grove Community Church and a charter member and former secretary of the Bellville Jefferson Township Historical Society. Mary Alice was also a member of the American Legion Post #535 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughters Rhonda Barnett and Melinda Hofferber both of Bellville, Pam (Tony) Bowman of Butler and Barb (Chuck) Borders of Bellville; grandchildren Brett (Kenna) Barnett of Grove City, Penn., Amanda Barnett of Mansfield, Matthew Hofferber and Jimmy Kovach of Columbus, Mallory Hofferber of Bellville, Adam Bowman of Columbus, Kimberly (Mark) DeLaney of Newark, Anna (Mike) Hays of Columbia, South Carolina, Jason Brook of Bellville, Kristi (Mike) Barton of Broken Arrow, Okla., Ashley Borders of Broken Arrow, Okla., Peyton Efaw of Galion, and Jacob Borders of Youngstown; great grandchildren Mariah Smith, Kylie, Briana and Jayden McGinty, Jase Miller, Addyson DeLaney, Daisa Barton, Klaudia Efaw, Gage Speer, Kamden Borders, and Christopher Barton; siblings Rodney "Top" (Martha) Walker, Ronald "Butch" (Ellen) Walker, William Walker, Norma Wolfgang, Dana Robinson, Ida Mae Ocheltree and Maurine and Jim Walters all of Bellville, as well as nieces and nephews.
Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Homer E. Snavely, sister Lois Ann (Clark) Gaddis, brother Jack (Gerry) Walker, father-in-law Charley (Elmina) Snavely, brothers-in-law Charles "Red" Little, Albert Wolfgang, Jr., Jim Robinson, Fred Ocheltree, brother-in-law Lewis "Jack" (Irene) Snavely, sister-in-law Martha (Cecil) Wyrick.
The Snavely family will receive friends Monday, April 7, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. Pastor Ken Kinley will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to Jefferson Township Bellville Rescue Squad or Pleasant Grove Community Church may be made at the funeral home.
