Dr. Mary M. (Blair) Fields

TRAPPE, PA: Dr. Mary M. (Blair) Fields, 69, wife of Albert M. Fields, Holly Dr., Trappe, died Wednesday, in Seasons Hospice At Phoenixville Hospital.

Dr. Fields was born on March 4, 1943, in Galion, OH, and was a daughter of the late James and Margaret (Snyder) Blair. She earned a bachelor of science degree in biology at Otterbein College, Westerville, OH, in 1965, a master of science degree in genetics at Miami University, Oxford, OH, in 1969, and a doctor of philosophy degree in genetics also at Miami University, in 1977.

Dr. Fields retired in 2008, from Ursinus College, where she was a biology professor for 33 years. She served as chairwoman of the biology department from 2002 to 2005. She also was a member of the Botanical Soc. of America, the Mid-Atlantic Plant Molecular Biology Soc., the PA Academy of Sciences, and the Sigma Xi Scientific Research Soc.

Dr. Fields was a member of St. James Episcopal Church where she was a lay reader and vestry member.

In addition to her husband, Dr. Fields is survived by her children, Susan, wife of Andrew Hendricks, Norristown, and Steven, husband of Jennifer (Coveleskie) Fields, Manheim Twp.; her granddaughter, Amelia Hendricks; and her sister, Janet, wife of Ronald Roll, Ada, OH.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, March 2nd, at St. James Episcopal Church, with the Rev. William M. Sowards, Rector, officiating.
