Mary Martha Reichert

WAKE FOREST, NC: Mary Martha Reichert, 95, of Wake Forest, NC, (formerly of Okeechobee, FL; Butler, OH; and Cuyahoga Falls, OH) passed away January 5, 2013 at the Hillside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Wake Forest.

Martha was born January 16, 1917 in Akron as a first child to Walter Reed and Lillian Striff Reed. Martha's arrival into this world resulted in the loss of her mother during child birth. Two years later, her father, a manager at Goodyear, died of appendicitis. She was raised by her elderly grandparents, Emma and Dennis Striff. In spite of her early life experiences Martha was always happy, passionate about her love of family and friends, kind to those around her, and enjoyed each moment to the fullest.

During WWII Martha was a real-life "Rosie the Riveter" and worked on B-25 assembly. She never wanted to miss anything and was actively engaged in living her life, whether attending a Broadway musical or her 95th birthday party. She made new friends wherever she went and touched lives in so many ways. She will be missed.

Martha was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Reichert on December 5, 2007. They were married nearly 70 years.

Survivors include her daughter Nancy (Terry) Crawford of Wake Forest NC, grandson Andrew Crawford, daughter Susan Jackson, granddaughter Juanita Jackson, and two great grandchildren.

The family observed private service. Those wishing to honor her memory are encouraged to make a donation in her name to Meals on Wheels of Wake County.

A service of Bright Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 405 S. Main St., Wake Forest. (919-556-5811)
