RICHLAND CTY: Maurice F. Elson, 81 of Richland County, passed away early Thursday morning, June 27, 2013 in the Wasen Center of Brethren Care Village following a lengthy illness.

Maurice was born on the family farm in Orange Twp., Ashland County, Ohio on September 20, 1931. He was the son of the late Paul Emerson and Ella Valena (nee Fridline) Elson. He was a resident of Ashland County and the city of Ashland for most of his life until moving to a farm in Richland County in the mid 1970's.

A carpenter by trade, Maurice was a Home Builder and Contractor constructing many homes in the Ashland and Mansfield area. He continued to do some building projects after purchasing a farm in Richland County, but mostly turned his interest to farming, as he had done growing up as a child. He also became interested in raising Belgium Horses which he used at times to work the farm.

Maurice was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Polk Church of Christ. He enjoyed raising and working his Belgium Horses and going out to eat with friends on Saturday night.

On May 19, 1962 he was married to Clara Louise Smith who preceded him in death on November 14, 2003.

He is survived by one sister, Lois E. Drushel of Ashland; one brother, Gaylord H. (Marjorie L.) Elson of Ashland; two nieces, eight nephews, numerous great- nieces and great-nephews; his friend, Hershel Bartley; his dog Sheba; and by his most trusted friend and Caregiver, Kim Fisher of Ashland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Clara Louise Elson; a brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Norma Elson; a brother-in-law, Eugene Drushel' and a nephew, Jerry Elson.

Funeral services will be held Monday, July 1, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ed Graves officiating. Burial will be in the Ashland County Memorial Park, with the Ashland Veterans Honor Guard providing full military honors. Friends may call on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Denbow-Primm-Kemery Funeral Home.
