Michael W. Kochert
LEXINGTON: Michael W. Kochert passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014 in University Hospitals of Cleveland following illness complications. He was 55.
Born March 12, 1959 in Mansfield, he was the son of Wayne & Betty (Karsmitzki) Kochert and was graduated with the class of 1977 from Lexington High School. Over the years he held many jobs, but for the past 4 years he worked for Hi-Stat Manufacturing in Lexington. Mike was also a volunteer firefighter
for the Troy Township Fire Department and once served as the county inspector.
When he wasn't working, Mike enjoyed the peace that came with fishing and camping (a favorite spot to camp was the woods behind his mom's country home). He was also a skilled woodworker who could whittle something small or build a vanity from scratch. He was learning to be a locksmith and his model car collection didn't sit and gather dust—he and the grandkids would play with them.
Mike was a proud member of the Handyman Club, Wildlife Forever, and the North American Hunting and Fishing Club.
He is survived by 4 children: daughter Amanda & Steven Bayes of Mansfield, son Tim Kochert of Broadview Heights, son Chris Kochert of Lexington, and son Steven & Sarah Kochert of Mansfield; 6 grandchildren: Cameron Yoder, Derrick Bayes, Tinley Kochert, Aleah Kochert, Kayden Rose, and Brantley Kochert; his mother: Betty Kochert of Lexington; 2 sisters and a brother-in-law: Sharon Subich of Mansfield and Kathy & Anthony Salyers of Columbus; and the mothers of his children: JoAnn Hoffman and Becky Kochert.
Michael was preceded in death by his father: Wayne Kochert.
The family will receive friends 4-8 pm Friday, April 25, 2014 in Snyder Funeral Home, 2553 Lexington Avenue 44904, where a funeral service honoring his life will be held Saturday at 11 am. A friend of the family, Al Spore, will officiate and burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.
