Michael J. Shaffer
MANSFIELD: Michael J. Shaffer, 64, of Mansfield, passed away Monday morning, March 17, 2014 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. He was born May 19, 1949 in Mansfield to the late Earl F. and Annie L. (Morgan) Shaffer.
Mike was an honest, dependable man with the heart of an adventurer. He had unique and varied interests and had a thirst for knowledge in science and history that he satisfied through research on his computer. He retired as a self-employed vehicle maintenance mechanic. Mike received his Associate Degree in Commercial Fishing in Coos Bay, Oregon. He was an accomplished guitarist and animal lover. Mike most enjoyed spending time in the company of his family and close friends.
He is survived by his wife, Saundria "Sandy" Simones Shaffer of Mansfield; daughter, Annie Shaffer; three grandchildren; two stepsons, Randy and Bradley Heater, both of Mansfield; a stepdaughter, Delena "Cathy" (Thomas) Deeb of Leesville, OH; eight step grandchildren; two sisters, Susan (Daniel) Simones of Thomasville, GA and Peggy (Edward) Bollinger of Mansfield; his canine buddy of 17 years, miniature pinscher, Bubby; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and very dear relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Thomas Heater; and brother, Joseph Shaffer.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in care of his sister, Peggy Bollinger to be entrusted with the family. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
