ONTARIO: Mike Panyik, age 95, passed away Friday February 15, 2013 at Elmcroft of Ontario. He was born June 25, 1917 in Mansfield, Ohio to the late John and Anna (Kurry) Panyik. Mike retired from Westinghouse in 1976 after 40 years of service in maintenance. He was an Army
veteran of WWII
and a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ. Mike was a true outdoorsman who loved to fish everywhere. He had a fondness for salmon fishing. He had been a farmer and took great care of his vegetable garden. Mike and his wife, Doris traveled all over the United States and his interest in dams motivated him to visit many during those travels.
Mike was married to his loving wife of 66 years, Doris (Poth) Panyik who passed away in 2006. Mike is survived by his son, Terry (Pat) Panyik of Fredericktown; daughters, Vicki (George) Allen of Marengo and Dianna (Dean) Myers of Ontario; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; sister, Esther Constance; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris; daughter, Christi Gross; brothers, Adam and John Panyik; and sisters, Katherine Arnold, Pauline Yarman, Anna Fisher and Susan Bottomley.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 1, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd, Ontario with Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service from 9:00-10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Johns United Church of Christ or MedCentral Hospice. A very special thank you to Elmcroft of Ontario.
