Milton L. "Milt" Jones

MANSFIELD: Milton L. "Milt" Jones, 83, of Mansfield, OH passed away February 18, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born October 5, 1930 in Mansfield, he was the son of John and Catherine (Garver) Jones. Milt graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1948 and then attended TriState College where he earned his Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He went to work for General Motors in production control, where he retired after 30 years of service. Milt was a Korean War Army Veteran. He was a caring, honest, loving man who was quiet, but always made his presence known. Milt was a member of the Civitan Club in Mansfield and was a charter member of Southside Christian Church. Golfing was his favorite hobby and he was a longtime member of Twin Lakes golf club. He grew up as the #1 caddy at Westbrook and golfed until he was 82 years old. In his free time, he also enjoyed fishing in Lake Erie and annual fishing trips to Canada. He also enjoyed watching OSU games, where all his children graduated.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Jones, whom he married January 14, 1951 at First Christian Church in Mansfield. Also surviving are three daughters, Diane (Brad) Tomlinson of Hilliard, OH, Cindy Goodwin of Mansfield, and Tami (Dave) Black of Granville, OH; one son, Mark Jones of Avon, OH; grandchildren, Jeff McKnight, Michael and Zach Tomlinson, Krista and Karli Goodwin, and Steve, Katie, and Ryan Black; brothers, Dale (Sandy) Jones, Arthur (Diane) Jones, and Robert (Doris) Jones, all of Mansfield; sister, Carole Dinger of Mansfield; sister in-law, June (Bob) Hempfield of Mansfield; brother in-law, James (Maggie) Steele of Henderson, NV; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Milt was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Virgil (Jerri) Jones and Gerald Jones; an older sister during childhood and an infant sister; sister in-law, Mary Ann Rondy; brother in-law, Richard Dinger; mother in-law, Rose Steele "Seetie Pie"; and Annie, his beloved border collie.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, February 21, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Funeral services, conducted by Rev. Paul Lintern and Rev. Dr. Faith Proietti, will be Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veteran's Burial Detail will be held at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.
