Murray Glenn Swihart
MANSFIELD: Murray Glenn Swihart, beloved son, husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Mansfield after a long and extremely difficult battle with diabetes. He was 85.
Murray was born in Mansfield on April 2, 1927 to Herschel Glenn Swihart and Norma Mae Swartz. He was a graduate of Mansfield Senior High School and served in the United States Army as a Military Policeman from 1947 to 1951. Most of Murray's working career was spent as a very successful salesman, having been affiliated with Prudential Insurance Company, Mansfield Concrete and Supply, Wickes Lumber and numerous other businesses in the building trades. He was always the one to be counted on to complete the job and exceeded his customer's expectations, Murray was a born salesman and his ease of conversation and positive attitude made him the success he enjoyed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one younger brother, Douglas Edwin Swihart. Also preceding him in death were his first wife, Patricia Pearl Lysinger, whom he married on June 16, 1951 and who died in 1993; and his second wife, Nancy Twitchell, whom he married on November 25, 1995 and who died in 2011.
Murray is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Beverly Swihart; one daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Virgil Witt; and one sister-in-law, Barbara Swihart, all of Mansfield. Murray was proud "Grandpa" to seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Friends and family may visit from 1-3 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. The memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. David Hartzfeld officiating. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery at a later date.
