Oran "Ray" Rowland

Oran "Ray" Rowland

MANSFIELD: Oran "Ray" Rowland, 77, of Mansfield, died Saturday, November 29, 2013 at MedCentral Mansfield. Born September 2, 1936 in Chesterhill, Ohio, he was the son of Samuel T. and Rolena Dell (StClair) Rowland. After graduation, he joined the United States Navy where he was a Boiler Mate aboard ship serving for three years. He then moved to Mansfield in 1957 and began working for General Motors as a tool and die maker. He attended welding school in Troy, Ohio where he met Patsy J. Reynolds, his wife of over 54 years, at a local diner where she worked. They married on August 8, 1959 and settled in Mansfield where they built their home and raised their four children.

He loved hosting neighborhood cookouts and annual open house Christmas parties. He enjoyed working in his many gardens, building sheds, a barn and pavilion. In his spare time, you could always find him tinkering in his workshop building or repairing something. On weekends, he and his family would head to their campsite at Hidden Lakes in Mt. Gilead where they would enjoy huge get-togethers around the campsite with family, friends and fellow campers roasting hot dogs and playing music. As his children were younger, educational vacations were important to the family as they traveled the United States. He was a avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan.

Once he retired from General Motors after 33 years of service, he and Patsy (Poochie) would pack up and head to Florida at first frost! He often joked he didn't care if he NEVER seen another snow again! After 20 years of being snowbirds, they then moved back to Mansfield to be near their kids.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy J. Reynolds Rowland; his children, Rachelle (Don) DeBord, Samuel Rowland, Lisa (David) Harman and John Rowland; two grandchildren, Joshua and Brittney; eight great grandchildren; two special grandpups, Jasper and Darby; a brother, Donald Rowland; a sister-in-law, Viola Rowland; and numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Rowland, Clayton Rowland and Clifford Rowland; and a sister, Hazel Petit.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the MedCentral Nursing Staff for their compassion and loving care.
