Ralph "Curly" Howard Krichbaum

MANSFIELD: Ralph "Curly" H. Krichbaum, 90, of Mansfield, died November 18, 2012 at Wade Park VA Medical Center following a long battle with heart disease.

Born September 29, 1922 in Richland County, he was the son of Peter G. and Elsie Mae (Kress) Krichbaum.

Ralph was a World War II Navy veteran serving most of his time aboard the USS Antietam. He was on board at attention in Tokyo Bay at the surrender of Japan. He worked for Dearman Transportation, Duff Trucking, and Bissman Company in various roles. Ralph also spent several years as a deputy sheriff for Richland County. He was a member of Amvets in Mansfield, VFW Post 9943, Eagles, Owls and Sons of Herman. Ralph enjoyed bowling, golfing and helping out his children, who affectionately referred to him as a "Jack of All Trades".

Along with Lorine, he also served as foster parent to numerous children throughout the years. He was honored to participate in the Freedom Flight to Washington, DC in 2011 and was the Grand Marshall in the 2012 Memorial Day Parade.

Ralph is survived by his sons, Brad Krichbaum, Ron (Linda) Krichbaum, Ed Krichbaum and Rick (Deb) Krichbaum; daughters, Linda Austen-Krichbaum and Luann (Brian) Armstrong; the mother of his children, Lorine Austen; grandchildren, Ashley and Andrew Armstrong and Ryan, Bethany and Robert Krichbaum; step grandchildren, Justin and Ricky Mitchell and Shara Thomas; great grandchildren, Austen, Ayden and Autumn Krichbaum and Brynn Alicia Armstrong; step great grandchildren, Julia Massey and Mason Woodruff; brother, Edwin (Janet) Krichbaum; sisters, Hazel Schrack, Mabel Hardesty and Jeanette (Kenneth) Rebman; and many nieces and nephews.

His son, Chris H. Krichbaum followed him in death on February 5, 2013. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Oliver, Alfred, William, Russel and Lloyd Krichbaum; sisters, Florence Shearer, Irene Cleland and Velma Cahill; and granddaughter, Alicia Ann Armstrong.

A graveside service will be held Sunday, September 29, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Jeromesville Cemetery on State Route 89 in Jeromesville.
