PERRYSVILLE: Raymond A. Smith, 88, of Perrysville, died Tuesday evening, April 1, 2014 in Colonial Manor Health Care Center of Loudonville following an extended illness. Raymond was born January 2, 1926 in Perrysville and was the son of the late Ralph Alvin and Pearl (Shoudt) Smith. He was a Perrysville resident all of his life and wintered in Arcardia, FL for many years. Raymond was a US Marine Corps veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a welder for 34 years with Columbia Gas Transmission Co., retiring in 1981. He had also owned and operated Smitty's Cabinet and Woodworking as well as providing welding services in the area. On January 25, 1947 he married Mary Rose Bright and she preceded him in death on Nov. 28, 2010. He was a member of Perrysville United Methodist Church. Raymond was a 50-year member and Past Master of Hanover Lodge #115 F&AM, member and Past High Priest of King Cyrus Chapter #207 RAM, member of Ashland Council #128 RSM, Mansfield Commandery #21 KT, and Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus. He was a 50-year member of the Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, receiving the highest adult award, the Silver Beaver Award. Raymond was a 65-year member of American Legion Post 257, Loudonville and VFW Post 8586, Perrysville.

He is survived by his son, Alvin L. (Linda) Smith of Perrysville; four daughters: Sharon S. (Hillard) Clark of Loudonville, Sona L. (Paul) Hodge of Shreve, Tricia K. Applegate of Ashland, and Melissa Ann Young of Loudonville; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, four brothers: Ted, Paul, Bernard, and Richard Smith, and one sister: Adeline Huffman.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 AM in Perrysville United Methodist Church with Pastor Millissa K. Hartson, officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the American Legion and VFW will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM in the LINDSEY FUNERAL HOME, LOUDONVILLE where Masonic Services will begin at 7:45 PM.
