Rex R. Suydam

MANSFIELD: Rex R. Suydam, 51, of Mansfield, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2013 in the emergency department of MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

Rex was born March 25, 1961 in Toledo, Ohio the son of Russell and Ruthie (Storrs) Suydam.

Honorably discharged, Rex served in the Army for 13 years, and was a member of the Crestline VFW Post #2920 and KWVA Chapter 51.

A handyman, Rex worked as electrician, mechanic and was an accomplished woodworker. Building outdoor furniture he also donated his time, reworking the gunstocks for the KWVA.

Of Cherokee decent, Rex was proud of his Native American heritage. He loved Star Trek, the original series. A family man, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.

He is survived by his children and their spouses Christopher (Deirdra) Suydam, John (Danielle) Coleman, Richard (Holly) Coleman, Jessica (Michael) Young, Christopher Coleman (Candace), and Amanda Yunker; 13 grandchildren, Emily, Austin, Jordan, Micheala, Tyler, Chelsea, Jacob, Jadyn, Jennifer, Dillon, Lyndsee, Glenna and Kyle; mother Ruthie Merrifield; father-in-law Glenn Greenawalt, sister Rhonda Suydam, brothers Robbie and Ray Suydam; special niece Shandlle, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Along with his father he was preceded in death by his loving wife Melinda Suydam and sister Ruthie Suydam.

Services will be Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home. Military honors performed by both the Crestline VFW Post #2920 & KWVA Chapter 51 will be held at 2pm. Calling hours will follow from 2-5pm in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions to the KWVA Chapter 51 may be made through the funeral home.
