Ricke Dean Ortolf
OAKLAND, CA: Ricke Dean Ortolf, age 58, of Oakland, California, passed away Wednesday April 23, 2014 in Oakland, following injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident.
The son of Edgar and Charma (Bell) Ortolf, Ricke was born October 15, 1955 in Hamilton. As a teenager, Ricke swam and dove for the Clear Fork Swim Club and the YMCA winning numerous events. While in Lexington High School, he was the featured twirler for the Band of Gold, and was also a member of the symphonic orchestra and sang in the choir. Following graduation, Ricke completed Barber School through The Ohio State University
and began working as a barber in Mansfield.
After moving to San Francisco, for 10 years he worked as an administrative assistant for the ARC of San Francisco, and then became a legal secretary and worked for Burnham Brown Attorney's in Oakland where he made his home.
Having a passion for music, theatre, and the arts, Ricke enjoyed broadway shows, opera and museums.
While living in San Francisco and Oakland he maintained beautiful flower gardens. Tender hearted Ricke dearly loved his two special cats Oona and Ondo.
He loved to travel, taking vacations to Italy, Hawaii, and Montreal to see the Olympics. His favorite destinations were to New York City and Las Vegas. Ricke was a family man who enjoyed returning home to Lexington, to see his beloved family and friends. Loving, caring and thoughtful, Ricke was always thinking of everyone else. A birthday gift, phone call, friendly email or card in the mail, he made it a point to keep in touch with family and friends.
Ricke touched everyone's heart that he met, and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his mother Charma Ortolf of Lexington; brothers Dale and Randy Ortolf both of Lexington; nephew Justin Ortolf and his mother Colleen Shaughency and Andrew Ortolf and his mother Karen Watkins; niece Denise Stemple and her mother Diana Winters; great niece Olivia Stemple; half sister Karen (Kenn) Brandt; aunts Phyllis Bell, Janet Ortolf, and Neva Bell; cousins Darcey Ortolf, Donna (Jim) Scowden, and Pam (Mike) Murphy; special lifelong friends in Lexington, and a close circle of special friends in California.
He was preceded in death by his father Edgar Ortolf; uncles Howard Bell and Paul Ortolf.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 4, 2014 from 2-5pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 am in Lexington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Richland County Humane Society may be made through the funeral home.
