Sara Scott Gandert
MANSFIELD: Most women put off entertaining until the kids are grown. Not Sara Gandert. She combined her cooking talents, sharp mind for bridge and endless love for people by hosting bridge nights in her home, complete with every appetizer imaginable, and she entertained a lot. As the consummate wife, mother and homemaker, she embraced entertaining her family - caring for them, providing for them and nurturing them - on a daily basis. Sara Gandert loved her family and friends.
Sara passed away Friday evening July 19, 2013 in Lexington Court Care Center following a long illness. She was 81.
Born Sara Auday Scott December 29, 1931 to Kathleen (Hosler) and Thomas A. Scott in Mansfield, she remained a lifelong area resident. She was graduated from Mansfield Senior High School and attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware. She transferred to The Ohio State University
and was graduated with a bachelors degree in Home Economics. While at OSU she was active with Alpha Phi Sorority.
Sara dearly loved homemaking and had been active in a wide social circle in Mansfield. She often played tennis with friends at the Woodland Club, was a gifted floral arranger, and loved to dance. Her singing voice spilled over to her beautiful whistling and Sara was so fond of coffee (she drank yesterday's coffee) as she loved iced coffee long before it became fashionable.
After the kids were raised, her people skills and social acumen complimented her work as a realtor with Tom Mattox Realty Co.
Remembered for her generosity, Sara was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She lavished attention on her black lab, Bo and always thought a clean house was the sign of a boring person. There may have been dust in her house - but there was none on her!
Her family, who benefited from loving attention include her children, Scott & Tam Gandert of Atlanta, GA., Kathleen "Kay" & Mark Fowler of Mansfield, and Rob & Christina Gandert of Worthington; a daughter-in-law, Annette Gandert of Mansfield; grandchildren, Will Gandert, Sarah Krinsky, Michael Gandert, Audra Gandert and Ava Gandert; a niece, Carolyn Lee and a nephew, Thomas C. Scott.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert F. "Herm" Gandert; her son, Craig A. Gandert; brother, Thomas H. (Barbara) Scott; and sister Betty Scott.
The Gandert family will receive friends Thursday, July 25, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. Pastor Tj Waters will officiate. Interment will follow in Mansfield Cemetery.
Memorial contributions to the
or the Mansfield-Richland County Humane Society may be made at the funeral home.
