MERCEDES, TX: Stephen Vermilya, 71, of Mercedes, Texas, formerly of Ashland, passed away Monday, February 18, 2013, in Harlingen, Texas.
He was born February 25, 1941, to Don and Fayma Struble Vermilya in Ashland. Steve graduated from Ashland High School in 1960 and enlisted in the United States Army
Steve married Jane Darnell Vermilya on January 2, 1965 in Ashland at First United Methodist Church. Together, they were married 42 years and had two children and four grandchildren. Jane preceded him in death April 9, 2007.
He retired from the Ohio Department of Transportation. He married his second wife, Vivien Tufford Vermilya in 2010 and moved to Mercedes, Texas. Steve loved to golf and fish.
Stephen is survived by his second wife, Vivien Vermilya of Mercedes, Texas; children, Todd (Ann) Vermilya of Loudonville and Jennifer (Mike) Vermilya Procker of Mansfield; grandchildren, Jordan, Maria, Walter and Emma; and twin sister, Susan Eastman of Mercedes, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jane Vermilya; and his brother, Donald Vermilya of Ashland.
Steve's family will receive friends to celebrate his life from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 2013 at Dauch Hall, First United Methodist Church, 220 Sandusky St., Ashland.
