Steve A. Chitwood
MANSFIELD: Steve A. Chitwood, 62, of Mansfield, passed away April 13, 2014 after a courageous two year battle with melanoma. Born July 28, 1951 in Mansfield, he was the son of Steve Cohen and Martha Isabelle (Hall) Chitwood. Steve graduated from Malabar High School in 1969 and never missed a high school reunion. A kind, caring, gentle man, he had a wonderful sense of humor and a real sense of adventure. Steve was the kind of guy who never met a stranger. Once you met him, it was like you had always known him. He retired from Harry L. Hall Agency, Inc. where he was a third generation Insurance Agent and co-owner.
Steve enjoyed attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events and was always decked out in the team attire and colors. He also enjoyed traveling and taking trips on his Harley Davidson. Greece, Germany, and the Caribbean are three of the exotic places he had lived or visited. He was a volunteer and board member for Habitat for Humanity of Brevard, North Carolina. Although he had been so many places, he was a true Mansfield man at heart. He was a member of Kiwanis and Lucas Athletic Boosters.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Chitwood of Mansfield; sons, Shawn (Rae) Chitwood of Mansfield, Neil (Megan) Chitwood of Ontario, and Craig (Mandy) Chitwood of Mansfield; grandchildren, Kevin Cuthbertson, Isaac Chitwood, Alexander, Lillian, and William Chitwood, and Pierce Chitwood; step-son, Benjamin Morgan; sisters, BetteRae Hunt of Lexington, Stephanie Wilbanks of Dayton, and Cheryl (Gary) Van Riper of Missouri; step-mother, Ruth Chitwood of Missouri; uncle, Martin Hall of Mansfield; and numerous other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
