Thomas Arthur Hoff
MANSFIELD: Thomas Arthur Hoff, 74, of Mansfield, died Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Mifflin Care Center.
He was born September 23, 1938 in Bexley, Ohio the only child of Esther R. (Scheuerman) and Arthur C. Hoff.
He graduated from Bexley High School in 1954 and received his Bachelor Degree from The Ohio State University
. After graduation, he moved to Mansfield in 1970 and was involved with the Mansfield Playhouse and Malabar Farms. He taught advertising for several years at the Mansfield OSU Campus and North Central State College. He also taught acting, started the youth theater group, Nova at Richland Academy, coached the Mansfield Senior High School Marching band and flag corps, and mentored Odyssey of the Mind, taking several teams to state and world competitions.
Tom's love of music was apparent when he founded the Dixieland Band, "Good Time Charlies". He was a member of Local #159 Music Union. His outgoing, social nature was a perfect fit for all the activities he enjoyed throughout his life.
He was employed for 30 years at Mansfield Plumbing Products, U-Brand, Firestone and Marc Associates. After his retirement, he worked as a freelance designer in advertising with many local businesses. Most recently, he had owned and operated a train store, "The Model Railroad Scene" on 3rd Street, then moving to Lexington Avenue. He was a member of the Downtown Merchants Association. Tom was a member of First Congregational Church and served in the Air Force Reserves.
Tom is survived by his wife, Suzanne (Baker) Hoff; son, Jason (Lisa) Hoff of Dayton; daughter, Megan (Brian) Deister of Bexley; and three grandchildren, Michael Thomas Hoff, and Lauren Marie and Luke Chaz Deister.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, July 28, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St. Pastor Dan Dickman will conduct the service.
