Virginia R. Swogger

SHELBY: Virginia R. Swogger, age 88, resident of the Shelby-Ganges area died Sunday, September 30, 2012 in Crestwood Care Center following a brief illness.

Born April 3, 1924 in Tiro to Emery and Tillie (Kark) Schiefer she had been a Shelby-Ganges area resident the majority of her life. She was a 1942 graduate of Tiro High School. A homemaker, she was a former volunteer with the Shelby Chapter of the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Swogger was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Order of the Eastern Star Angelus Chapter, Ganges Ladies Aid, and Fleet Reserve Auxiliary. A cat lover, she enjoyed flowers, playing cards, bowling, and making ceramics. She was an entrepreneurial marketer who cherished her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include five sons, Kurt (Kathy) Swogger of Austin, Texas; Otto (Connie) Swogger of Ontario, Ohio; Eric (Kathy) Swogger of Murrieta, California; Herman (Mary Jo) Swogger of Shelby, and John Swogger of Mansfield; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; three sisters, Cordelia Chapman of Saginaw, Michigan; Judy Everhart of Shelby and Castalia (John) Poffenbaugh of Galion; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Schiefer of Bucyrus and Ruth Ann Schiefer of Tiro; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Swogger; three sisters, Lucille Chapman, Delores Bevier and Marietta Mae Sharpless; and two brothers, Virgil and Corliss Schieffer.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 AM Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Barkdull Funeral Home in Shelby. Reverend Ron Puff will officiate with interment in Ganges Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
