Wanda Hollar Obituary

Wanda E. (Morgan) Hollar

MANSFIELD: Wanda E. Hollar, of Mansfield, passed away Thursday evening February 21, 2013 in Winchester Terrace. She was 86.

Born Wanda E. Morgan April 13, 1926 in Butler, she was the daughter of the late Herschel and Nellie (Brokaw) Morgan, and was graduated from Bellville High School in 1944.

She met her future husband, Merle Hollar, at the Bellville Fair in 1939 when she was only 13. Their courtship continued while Merle was in the service and upon his discharge, they were married October 27, 1946. Wanda set about the noble task of homemaker and raising a family.

Wanda operated her own cake business, Hollar's Cake Decorating Shop, for several years, creating cakes for all types of celebrations, and selling cake decorating supplies. She also taught cake decorating classes and candy making. It was a natural extension of her love for baking and cooking.

She was social, enjoyed playing cards and helped organize over 80 bus trips for the Lexington Senior-Civic Center. Wanda and Merle were also instrumental in forming the euchre and dart clubs at the center. Wanda and Merle enjoyed Western Square dancing and together they were charter members of several dancing and performing groups. She served as president of the Ohio State Agriculture Home Extension Council with over 400 members in different clubs.

She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law Mike & Ella Hollar of Mansfield and Bruce Hollar and Dureen Lamson of Mansfield; grandchildren Eric & Beth Hollar of Ontario and Carly Glass of Jeromsville; great grandchildren Alexis Eyster, Chloe Hollar, and Sage, Jade and Gracie Glass; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

Her beloved Merle, to whom Wanda was devoted for 63 years, preceded her in death March 30, 2010. Also deceased are her sister Pearl Niman and brothers Carl, Harvey and Chester Nichols.

The Hollar family will receive friends Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 3 to 5 p.m. In the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. Pastor Don Earlenbaugh will officiate. Burial will follow in Bellville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society-Northwestern Ohio Chapter may be made through the funeral home.
