Alma B. Edwards

MANSFIELD: If you asked Alma Edwards the secret to her longevity, she would laugh and reply "I have no idea!" Having celebrated her 105 birthday this past July, Alma gave all of her talents to the Lord, until there was nothing left to give, surely arriving at the gates confirming that she used everything the good Lord gave to her.

Now in the arms of her Savior, Alma passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 in MedCentral Mansfield Hospital, surrounded by her adoring family.

Alma was born July 24, 1907 in Pittsburg, Kansas, the daughter of Gustav and Pearl (Lobaugh) Gustafson.

On July 18, 1929 she married Ernest Edwards who preceded her in death in 1984. For many years they lived on Kochheiser Road where Alma and Ernest raised their children. Along with her neighbors, Alma was a member of the Chestnut Chapel Club.

Alma worked 15 years at the former Essex-Stevens Manufacturing retiring well after her 65th birthday.

A tremendous wife and mother, Alma was also a member of the Red Hat Society, the Coffee Cup Club, and the Fun-n-Friendship Club, where she often played Minnie Pearl in their plays.

Alma was a longtime, faithful member of First Christian Church, where she was a member since 1941.

She is survived by her four children Barbara J. and Harold Troupe of Mansfield, Donald E. and Judi Edwards of Howard, Marilyn M. Walter of Titusville, Florida, and Pamela K. and James Armstrong of Anaheim Hills, California; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren with a great great granddaughter expected this month, her 95 year old "baby brother" Clifford Gustafson of Oklahoma, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by siblings Earl and Loren Gustafson, and Beatrice Forbes.

Friends may call Monday, October 8, 2012 from 4-7 pm in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 am. Pastor Chris Whitehead will officiate and burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park.

In place of flowers, memorial contributions to First Christian Church may be made through the funeral home.
