MANSFIELD: Alvonzia "Al" Darson, Jr., 59, passed this life on Tuesday, October 29, 2013 in Euclid Hospital, Cleveland after an extended illness.
Mr. Darson was born on Thursday, October 21, 1954 to the late Alvonzia Darson, Sr. and Pearl Lusby Darson Black in Salem, New Jersey. Alvonzia lived in Mansfield for 43 years prior to moving to Cleveland 2 years ago. He was a former employee of Flexible in Loudonville until it closed then became cook at various restaurants in the Mansfield area. Al enjoyed singing and was a member of the former Friendship Center Male Chorus, bowling and playing dominoes.
Al is survived by his mother: Pearl Black, Mansfield; five children: Tabitha "Tab" Douglas, Alvonzia "Vonzie" Darson, III, Mansfield, Jene'ya Darson, Lancaster, Texas, Christina Sirmones, Lake Butler, Florida, Tamara Darson of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, step mother: Mary Darson, Glen Cove, New York; five siblings: Darlene V. Mullings of Bronx, New York, Thomas Darson, Newark, Delaware, Tyrone Darson, Wilmington, Delaware, Paul Darson, Lawton, Oklahoma, and Margaret Darson, Glen Cove, step brother: Kevin Black, Mansfield.
Friends may call in the chapel of Williams Funeral Services one hour prior to the 6 p.m. funeral service. Pastor Louise Jackson of the Greater Mitchell Chapel AME Church will officiate. The family will receive friends at 575 Stocking Ave. the home of Al's mother.
